Summer Swim Lessons
Learn a life-long skill for yourself, or have it taught to your child by our experienced instructors.
Group lessons are available for ages 3 and up or check out our Private Lesson options.
AMLD only offers group swim lessons during the summer
Resident rate: $45 per 2 week session
Non-resident rate: $55 per 2 week session
Sessions are 2 weeks long (Monday-Thursday) with classes that are 30 minutes long.
Morning lessons are held at the El Salido Pool.
Levels include Tot Beginner, Beginner, Adv. Beginner, Intermediate, Swimmer, Adv. Swimmer Diving at 10:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.
Jr. Lifeguarding 10:00 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.
Diving is 55 minutes at 10:00 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.
Evening lessons are available at the Anderson Mill Pool.
Levels include Beginner, Adv. Beginner and Intermediate at 6pm and 6:30pm.
Swim lesson registration for each 2 week session ends at 2pm on the Saturday before each session begins.
Level 1- Tot Beginner- Ages 3-5: Water adjustment, blowing bubbles, putting face in water, retrieval of objects underwater, front-float introduction, kicking on front, back-float introduction, kicking on back, arm-stroke for front-crawl and underwater swimming.
Level 2- Beginner- Ages 5-7: Rhythmic breathing 20 times, front-float glide and kick, back-float glide and kick, finning on back, front-crawl with rotary breathing, elementary backstroke, jump into deep water and swim to side, roll over (front to back), change direction and survival-float introduction.
Level 3- Advanced Beginner- Ages 6-8: Rhythmic breathing 30 times, front-crawl 25yds, back-crawl introduction, elementary backstroke 25yds, treading water 30 seconds, survival-float 3 minutes, seated and kneeling dives, tip-in dive in deep water, retrieval of object in 5ft of water and floating on back 1 minute.
Level 4- Intermediate- Ages 8-10: Front-crawl 50yds with rotary breathing, back-crawl 50yds, introduction to breast-stroke, survival-float 5minutes, underwater swimming 10 feet, continuous swim 100yds; sitting, kneeling and standing dives; treading water 1 minute and floating on back 5 minutes.
Level 5- Swimmer- Ages 9 & up: Front-crawl 100yds, back-crawl 100yds, back-crawl 100yds, breast-stroke 100yds, elementary back-stroke 100yds, side-stroke 100yds, underwater swimming 20 feet, continuous swim 15 minutes, front-dive from side of pool, front and back turns, surface dives and object retrieval.
Level 6- Advanced Swimmer- Ages 11 & up: Strength and speed work for all strokes, conditioning and endurance work emphasized, technique work for all strokes, turns, front/back/IM, starts, breaking- all strokes, sprinting techniques, pacing, kicking drills and pulling drills.
Jr. Lifeguard- Ages 11-14: This brief class is designed to prepare those on the cusp of being old enough to sign up for the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course. Each day different skills are introduced and practiced for 25 minutes. Participants must be able to swim the front-crawl or breast-stroke 100yds.
Diving- Ages 6 & up: Approaches for forward, backward and inward dive; line ups forward and backward, conditioning exercises, forward somersaults introduction, backward somersaults introduction, inward dives introduction, reverse dive introduction; tuck, pike, straight positions; handstands, preparation for competition/ multiple somersaults (1.5, 2 & 2.5).
